Western Australia 's agriculture, food and fibre sector generates $8 billion annually, employs 49,000 people directly and provides the fabric for most of our regional communities.
The world in which it operates is evolving rapidly - and the sector needs to be able to respond just as rapidly.
Western Australia's four major agricultural research organisations are combining their capabilities to provide our agricultural sector with a more efficient and effective research and research training service.
This venture, known as Agricultural Research Western Australia (ARWA) was created with the signing of a Cooperation Agreement between the Partners - Curtin University of Technology, the Department of Agriculture (now Department of Agriculture and Food), Murdoch University and The University of Western Australia - in November 2004.
Formally launched in August 2005, the alliance was expanded in June 2006 with the introduction of CSIRO as an effective 'fifth partner'.
